Update Apple Device Now Correct Security Flaw

In a new report, researchers at the University of Toronto’s Citizen Lab said the NSO Group, an Israeli spyware company, used what is known as a “zero-click exploit” to hack the iPhone of an unnamed Saudi activist and infect his device using its flagship “Pegasus” spyware program. Apple has released a software patch to fix a security vulnerability that researchers say could allow hackers to directly infect iPhones and other Apple devices without any involvement of the owner.

“Zero-click exploit” refers to the method of the attack which requires no engagement from the targeted user. Typically, cyberattacks involve a malicious link that users unknowingly click on, thus installing malware onto their system, which can then covertly usurp information or disrupt the victim’s network. In its “Forcedentry” attacks, which researchers said has been in use since February, NSO Group hackers were able to install Pegasus spyware onto target devices simply by sending a message or calling a phone — without any action from users themselves. In releasing its security patch on Monday, Apple credited Citizen Lab for helping it address the issue swiftly.

Here’s how to update your Apple devices to correct the security flaw.

iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch

  • Plug in your device and make sure you’re connected to the internet.
  • Go to Settings General, then tap Software Update.
  • Tap “Install Now.” If you see “Download and Install” instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap “Install Now.”

Apple Watch

First, make sure that your Apple Watch is compatible with the latest software: watchOS 7 is compatible with Apple Watch Series 3 and later and Apple Watch SE. Upgrading to watchOS 7 requires an iPhone 6s or later running iOS 14 or later.

Next steps:

  • Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
  • Make sure that your Apple Watch is at least 50 percent charged.
  • Connect your iPhone to Wi-Fi.
  • Keep your iPhone next to your Apple Watch, so that they’re in range.

It could take from several minutes to an hour for the update to complete. You might want to update overnight or wait until you have time.

To update your Apple Watch using your iPhone

When a new update is available, your Apple Watch notifies you. Tap Update Tonight in the notification, then go to your iPhone to confirm that you want to update overnight. At the end of the day, leave your Apple Watch and iPhone charging overnight so the update can complete.

To update directly on your Apple Watch

If your Apple Watch has watchOS 6 or later, you can install subsequent updates without your iPhone:

  • Make sure that your watch is connected to Wi-Fi.
  • On your watch, open the Settings app.
  • Tap General Software Update.
  • Tap Install if a software update is available, then follow the onscreen instructions.

Apple TV

To Update Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD

  • Go to Settings System Software Updates and select Update Software.
  • If there’s an update, select Download and Install.
  • Wait for your Apple TV to download the update. Don’t disconnect or unplug your Apple TV until the update completes.

After the update downloads, your Apple TV will restart, prepare the update, then install it. When the update is complete, your Apple TV will automatically restart again.

To update Apple TV (3rd generation)

  • Go to Settings General Software Updates and select Update Software.
  • If there’s an update, download and install it.
  • Wait for your Apple TV to download the update. Don’t disconnect or unplug your Apple TV until the update completes.

Mac

  • From the Apple menu  in the corner of your screen, choose System Preferences.
  • Click “Software Update.””
  • Click “Update Now” or “Upgrade Now:”
  • “Update Now” installs the latest updates for the currently installed version. Learn about macOS Big Sur updates, for example.
  • “Upgrade Now” installs a major new version with a new name, such as macOS Big Sur.

iphone 13 series

Apple Watch Series 7, iPad Mini & iPhone 13 is here. Apple event summary.

The iPhone 13 will arrive in four models: a standard version with a 6.1-inch display, a Mini model, plus Pro and Pro Max models with larger screens and better battery life. All four devices will be available to preorder on Friday and launch in stores on Sept. 24. The iPhone 13 will start at $699 for the Mini model, all the way up to the iPhone 13 Pro Max at $1,099

Among the other devices unveiled Tuesday: a revamped budget iPad, an updated version of its iPad Mini, and the new Apple Watch Series 7 with a bigger display. This year’s release features several subtle upgrades to the iPhone, which will remain popular due to “pent up demand” for a new Apple phone. About 250 million of the 975 million iPhones already sold have not been upgraded in more than 3-5 years.

iPhone 13 features

iPhone 13 is available in five colors: red, starlight (a whiteish shade), midnight (a blackish shade), blue and pink. The two camera lenses on the back of the smartphone have been placed diagonally. The new phone also means the arrival of iOS 15, which will launch as a free software update on Sept. 20. It will include updates to FaceTime, a Live Text feature where users can search text within images, and a Focus mode to manage your notifications.

Along with the typical upgrades to processing speed, display and battery life, the iPhone 13 adds a Cinematic Mode, which uses an automatic focus to shift between subjects in a video, similar to Portrait Mode for photos.

A new Apple Watch

The Apple Watch uses the extra screen area to add a predictive text keyboard, so users can quickly type messages by dragging their fingers across the appropriate letters or they can do it the old-fashioned way letter by letter. It wasn’t just the iPhone enjoying the attention at Apple’s event. The tech giant also unveiled Apple Watch Series 7, with a larger display and redesigned look to provide more of a wraparound effect.

iPad & iPad mini

Apple says the new iPad Mini, which will feature an 8.3-inch touchscreen, will perform 80% faster than the previous model. The tablet, available Sept. 24, will include an upgrade to its cameras, support for the second-generation Apple Pencil, and support for 5G wireless networks. Apple also rolled out updates to its iPad line, with new versions of its entry-level model starting at $329 and an overhauled iPad Mini starting at $499.

The entry-level iPad will retain the same design and price but feature more storage starting at 64GB, and add a 12-megapixel front-facing camera with support for Center Stage, a feature on iPad Pro models which can automatically detect and follow who’s on screen.

Don’t Know Which Iphone to Choose ?

Bigger phone, bigger screens, bigger battery life and a bigger price tag. The iPhone 13 Pro starts at $999, and the Pro Max starts at $1,099. There’s also a storage option for the Pro at 1 terabyte.  Here’s a quick rundown of all the iPhones Apple will have available, with iPhone 13 on the list, and its starting price:

  • iPhone SE: $399
  • iPhone 11: $499
  • iPhone 12: $599
  • iPhone 13: $699
  • iPhone 13 Pro: $999

Users can also personalize their cameras with photographic styles. You can use default templates like rich contrast or vibrant warm, altering the tone and warmth on a photo to create the specific style you want. The camera features a brand new telephoto lens, Ultra-wide and wide lenses. Low light photos will look brighter and sharper, optical zoom will get a boost, while the system will allow for macro photography to get detailed closeups on objects. The smartphones will also feature Night Mode for taking pictures without proper lighting conditions. As for battery life, the 13 Pros last 1.5 hours longer than the iPhone 12 Pro and 2.5 hours longer than the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Cinematic Mode

The feature is capable of highlighting and framing the key elements in a video clip, from people or objects in the background to those who are closer to the camera. The iPhone 13 is adding a new mode called Cinematic Mode, which is essentially a version of Portrait Mode for use in videos. The mode will anticipate when the focus of the clip changes.

Apple Fitness+ Update

The fitness app available for Apple Watch will launch in 15 more countries and include additional types of experiences such as pilates and guided meditation. There are also workouts to help users get ready for snow season activities such as skiing or snowboarding. The Fitness+ app will also add Group Workouts using the upcoming SharePlay feature for FaceTime launching on iOS 15. It can support up to 32 people at the same time.

Apple Watch Series 7

The Apple Watch Series 7 will boast a new display with 20% more screen area than last year’s model. The shape has also been tweaked to feature softer, more rounded corners to create a more seamless wraparound effect. It’s also 70% brighter indoors. The Apple Watch is water-resistant and is the first model with dust resistance. It also boasts an 18-hour battery life and charges 33% faster than the Series 6.  It’s available in multiple colors including midnight, starlight, green and product red. Watchbands also feature a fresh variety of colors, too.

Buttons of the watch have been made larger to make them easier to find (especially if you’re half asleep trying to hit snooze on an alarm). There’s also a keyboard on the Apple Watch. Finally. It also has several watch faces aimed at leveraging the additional screen space.

iPad Mini

The top button will also double as a way to use Touch ID option as well. It’s 40% faster and 80% faster with graphics processing. So, yeah, it’s going to be really fast. The iPad Mini features a USB-C port, similar to iPad Air, which they say will result in 10 times faster data transfers, and support third-party devices that also use USB-C. It will also feature 5G.

It will support the second-generation Apple Pencil, and will have its own line of super -hin Smart Folio cases. The new mini-tablet will also record in 4K and the same camera as the upgraded entry-level iPad, which means it will also support Center Stage.

iPhone 13 Scams

The schemes often involve fake offers such as snagging the next iPhone before release or getting other deals on products like AirPods. People who sign up never get the device, and hackers get a hold of their personal information. As buzz rises over the likely unveiling of the iPhone 13, so too are the number of scams linked to Apple’s event. Research firm Kaspersky said they have seen intensified scamming activity ahead of the event.

“Apple presentations have always been a popular lure for scammers to roll out malicious activity,” said Tatyana Shcherbakova, security expert at Kaspersky, in a statement. “For several years now, we’ve seen how fraudsters use the buzz around new iPhone release and start spreading malicious features.”

M1 iPad Pro Dramatic Mini-LED Improvement

The new iPad Pro with the M1 processor starts arriving to early adopters on Friday, and will be available in some stores (depending on available stock) starting on the same day. Before that happens, though, the reviews are now in for Apple’s newest iPad Pro refresh.

Apple made the decision to hike up the price of the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro by $100 right out of the gate, but for a good reason: the new mini-LED display. It’s not OLED, exactly, but it does offer up incredible contrast ratios, great power management, and blacks that are black. The new iPad Pro, both sizes, also comes with the M1 processor that Apple launched late last year in the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.

The ‌iPad Pro‌’s mini-LED display, which Apple calls Liquid Retina XDR, features more than 10,000 LEDs with 2,500 local dimming zones, allowing for much deeper blacks and higher contrast depending on the content that you’re viewing.

As you can see in the video up above, with a black background displayed, the 2020 ‌iPad Pro‌ is more of a dark gray with light bleed from the LEDs, while the ‌M1‌ ‌iPad Pro‌ essentially has the mini-LEDs turned off thanks to local dimming, resulting in a much darker display that’s more of a true black.

The difference is easy to see with an all black background, but the increase in display quality is also noticeable in day to day usage, though the disparity between the two displays is not as stark.

The first thing I did, of course, was benchmark the M1 iPad Pro. My high-end review units from Apple, to be clear, have 1TB of storage and 16GB of RAM, while entry-level iPad Pro models only have 8GB of RAM. You need to pay for 1TB of storage or more to get that 16GB RAM option.

The gains in performance for single-core speed aren’t all that dramatic, but in multicore tests it leaps well above the 2020 iPad Pro, or the iPhone 12 — or any other tablet I can think of. In both Geekbench 5 and 3DMark Wildlife Extreme, it’s clear that the iPad Pro M1 processor (with an eight-core CPU and eight-core GPU) is basically the same as those other M1 Macs.

Watching HDR content is a much more immersive experience with the 2021 ‌M1‌ ‌iPad Pro‌, and it’s a much nicer tablet for editing HDR photos and videos. In fact, you’re going to see the most improvement with HDR content.

The 2021 12.9-inch iPad Pro is pictured on the left

It’s worth noting that some users have complained of a blooming effect caused by the extreme brightness of LEDs. Apple says that the design of the ‌iPad Pro‌ is meant to minimize this, but there are situations where more blooming than expected is visible. Blooming is an unavoidable consequence of local dimming technology. When one zone is lit up and one zone is dimmed for a truer black, the light from the lit zone can bleed over.

Right now, blooming seems to vary somewhat from ‌iPad Pro‌ to ‌iPad Pro‌, and it’s something that bothers some users more than others. It’s highly apparent in images and less extreme in person, but it is something to be aware of before making an ‌iPad Pro‌ purchase.

How many iPhone models will be there in 2021?

In 2020 the mini model didn’t do great as far as sales are concerned, but still, Apple is said to have a Mini version of the 13 Series. So, this year too iPhone 13 Series will come in 4 variants as follows:

  • iPhone 13 Mini
  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 13 Pro

Key features expected across all four iPhone 13 models:

  • A15 chip: A faster system-on-a-chip in the next iPhones is a virtual guarantee, with the iPhone 13 lineup expected to be equipped with an Apple-designed A15 chip manufactured by TSMC based on its 5nm+ process.
  • Smaller notch: The notch that houses the front camera and Face ID components will be reduced in size on iPhone 13 models, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Apple has achieved this feat by integrating various Face ID sensors into a single module, according to Taiwanese publication DigiTimes.
  • Larger batteries: iPhone 13 models will have larger battery capacities than iPhone 12 models, thanks to some space-saving design choices inside the upcoming devices, such as an integrated SIM card slot on the logic board, according to Kuo. iPhone 13 models are expected to be slightly heavier as a result.
  • Sensor-shift camera stabilization: Apple plans to expand sensor-shift image stabilization to all iPhone 13 models, according to Kuo and DigiTimes. This likely means that the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s Wide lens with sensor-shift will be expanded to the entire iPhone 13 lineup. The technology stabilizes the camera’s sensor instead of the lens for even greater image stabilization and improved photo quality.
  • 5G enhancements: iPhone 13 models will be equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X60 modem, according to Kuo and DigiTimes. Built on a 5nm process, the X60 packs higher power efficiency into a smaller footprint compared to the 7nm-based Snapdragon X55 modem used in iPhone 12 models, which could contribute to longer battery life. With the X60 modem, iPhone 13 models would also be able to aggregate 5G data from both mmWave and sub-6GHz bands simultaneously to achieve an optimal combination of high-speed and low-latency network coverage.
  • Wi-Fi 6E: iPhone 13 models will be the first to support Wi-Fi 6E, according to Barclays analysts Blayne Curtis and Thomas O’Malley. Wi-Fi 6E offers the features and capabilities of Wi-Fi 6, including higher performance, lower latency, and faster data rates, extended into the 6 GHz band. The additional spectrum will provide a lot more airspace beyond existing 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi, resulting in increased bandwidth and less interference for devices that support Wi-Fi 6E.
  • Lightning connector: Despite previously predicting that Apple would release a high-end iPhone without a Lightning connector in 2021, Kuo recently said there will be “no portless design” this year. Kuo expects iPhones to continue using Apple’s proprietary Lightning connector for the “foreseeable future.”
  • mmWave expansion: A supplier-focused report from the Economic Daily News suggested that iPhone 13 models may support ultra-fast mmWave 5G in additional countries outside of the United States.

PS5 restock update — leaker reveals how many consoles are coming

PS5 restock disaster could get solved by April, with millions more consoles coming each month, Millions of PS5 consoles could hit the shelves of retailers worldwide in the run-up to April, potentially making the process of finding where to buy the PS5 a lot easier.

That’s what’s being claimed by rather reliable stock update tipster PS5 UK Stock – Instant Updates, who claimed Sony plans to deliver 3 to nearly 4 million new games consoles a month, over the next few months. This information apparently comes from Sony itself but we weren’t able to verify that at the time of writing.

Where to buy PS5 in the UK — huge PS5 restock expected this week
PS5 vs. PS5 Digital Edition: Which one should you buy?
Plus: Sony unveils new PS5 game release dates during CES 2021
While PS5 UK Stock – Instant Updates stock tips have proven to deliver fairly accurate on when to expect PS5 restocks in the U.K., it’s still worth taking this news with a pinch of skepticism. That’s because new PS5 stock drops are very unreliable, with retailers looking poised to get in new stock one day only to drop a load of new consoles two days or so later.

bigbeateclectronics.com

Even with substantial stock pushed out each month, we’d not be surprised to see PS5 stock shortages continue for a while yet. The appetite for the PS5, and indeed the Xbox Series X, is fantastically high. Each time new stock appears it sells out in minutes, though recently PS5 bundles managed to stay in stock for a whole 15 minutes.

Scalpers looking to capitalize on the PS5 appetite have been using bots to buy up a lot of PS5 stock to resell at extortionate prices, but retailers appear to be taking some measures to stop them. That still doesn’t solve the problem of demand outstripping supply.

Nevertheless, the news that more PS5 consoles could be coming on a monthly basis is positive. It’s likely a lot of the 3 to 4 million monthly units will go to the U.S. and Japan, where PlayStation has a huge presence. But there’s a good chance that stock levels in other regions will increase, so if you’re lucky and fast you may be able to get yourself a PS5.

Latest Update: iOS 14.4 beta

Apple today seeded the second betas of upcoming iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4 updates to developers for testing purposes, with the new betas coming a month after Apple released the first betas.

iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4 can be downloaded through the Apple Developer Center or over the air after the proper profile has been installed on an iPhone or iPad.

Paired with the HomePod 14.4 beta that is only available to a limited number of testers, iOS 14.4 adds new HomePod mini functionality that takes advantage of the mini’s U1 chip.

There are now visual, audio, and haptic effects when songs are transferred from a HomePod minito a U1-enabled iPhone 11 or iPhone 12. When an ‌iPhone‌ is near the ‌HomePod mini‌ it begins a soft haptic touch rhythm that gets faster and faster as the ‌‌iPhone‌‌ gets closer until the interface to transfer a song between the ‌‌HomePod mini‌‌ and the ‌‌iPhone‌‌ opens.

bigbeateclectronics.com

This functionality will make handoff quicker and more reliable on a ‌‌HomePod mini‌‌ and an ‌iPhone 11‌ or ‌iPhone 12‌, all of which are equipped with U1 chips that let the devices better understand where they are in relation to one another.

In the Workout section of the Apple Watch app on ‌iPhone‌ there’s a new “Time to Walk” feature that includes a toggle to “Add Newest Workouts to Watch.” This suggests that Apple could be planning to add guided walking workouts in the watchOS 7.3 beta. “Time to Walk Workouts are downloaded when Apple Watch is connected to power and near your ‌iPhone‌. Completed workouts are deleted automatically,” reads the setting. This is not functional in the first beta of watchOS 7.3 and iOS 14.4, but could be activated later.

No other new features or changes were discovered in the first beta. The update likely focuses on performance improvements and bug fixes that weren’t able to be addressed in the iOS 14.3 update, but it’s also possible there are additional features that will be unlocked at a later date.

Update: iOS 14.4 includes a new setting to specify a device type for third-party Bluetooth-connected audio devices so that Headphone Audio Level measurements can be taken correctly. Apple tracks headphone audio levels to send alerts if music is playing at a level that has the potential to damage hearing health over time.

WhatsApp will stop working with these iPhone and Android from January 1

Very soon the most popular messaging app will stop working on several smartphones, check what they are and take your precautions.

WhatsApp will stop working on some Android and iPhonesmartphones, due to updates to both operating systems and applications to keep up to date. That is why we tell you which devices will be incompatible with the messaging app from January 1, 2021.

These iPhones run out of WhatsApp

For starters, all iPhones that do not have at least iOS 9 will be left without the app. That is, all iPhone 4 and earlier models.Models 4S, 5, 5S, 5C, 6 and 6S will need to update their operating system to iOS 9 or later to continue using WhatsApp.

In the case of the 6S, 6S Plus and the first generation iPhone SE, they are the last to support the latest version of the system, iOS 14.

bigbeateclectronics.com

The messaging app will not run on these Android either

WhatsApp will stop working (at least correctly) on smartphones that have a version prior to Android 4.0.3. Cell phone models like HTC Desire, LG Optimus Black, Motorola Droid Razr or even the Samsung Galaxy S2 will no longer be able to have WhatsApp.

How can I continue to have WhatsApp on these devices?

Some teams will be able to continue using the application because their operating systems received a patch with an update. However, if it was not your case and you want to continue using WhatsApp, the solution will be to get a new smartphone.

To find out what version of operating system your computer has …

Android: In the main menu of the phone select Settings or Settings, then choose About System or About Device and there you will see the information.

iPhone: Access Settings, General option and select Information, there you will find information about the software version you have installed on your device.
